The Future 03:24
The Future is now Time is the moon and we are all cows We talk in code Mystic poets dressed in robes Look through the screen window to the world Nothing more to grasp or absorb We exist inside a catalog Cut out creatures doing a job It’s the hand we draw, the roll of the dice The role we play like cats and mice I see your face Always in a different place Each day is a film I’m sharing all my favorite stills It’s the hand we draw, the roll of the dice The role we play like cats and mice Back in the day we used to play outside There was a tree I loved to climb The future is ours When we unplug we still have power

Cathedrals 03:59
Sunshine on the back of my eyes The blue sky is a black hole Swallowing up the afternoon The timeline broke the hourglass Stained the shards framed in cathedrals Lay the sand in dunes Whenever we’ll be we’ll be Highlights tag the shaded trees Reflected in symmetry It’s a dynamite way To spend a day at the park

Great Escape 03:17
Tell me about your favorite drug How does it make you feel? Like a shooting star, like falling in love? Like every dream is real? Send me a card on holiday A picture of the sea Make my troubles melt away Like honey in my tea Everyone needs a game to play Everyone needs a great escape Tell me a lie you tell yourself I’m ready to believe I’ll buy anything you sell… honestly Waiting for Saturday Makin my happy place Lookin for lost relief In my favorite memories

Don't Bother 03:51
Don’t bother to dress anymore Bare-chested innocence Strip my ego till it’s pure Remove what didn’t fit I am a skeleton I am a womb I am the elements Under the tomb Say “good morning” to big ideas New possibilities Say “goodbye” to all my fears Shake hands with honesty I am a telephone I am the ink Spelling out all those Words that we think Don’t bother to hide it Don’t bother to fight anymore Every moment’s a marathon Gotta send a message Declare myself a champion Measure new successes I am an acrobat I am a pearl A crystal ball In the underworld

For all I know It might not snow anymore Who's to say if it will rain If it will pour? For all I know It might not snow anymore I've been growing Learning new tricks like recipes and poems to recite I got a new lamp Changed the kind of soap I use to wash my body For all I know It might not snow anymore Who's to say if it will rain If it will pour? For all I know It might not snow anymore I've been traveling I took a trip to see my family Damn it'd been so long I took an airplane It kinda scared me to fly this time I don't know why For all I know It might not snow anymore Who's to say if it will rain If it will pour? For all I know It might not snow anymore

Department store romance Fitting room hookup We'll look at the rings I'm feeling good luck Coming our way like a new pair of shoes Vibrating heart like a vintage cartoon We'll take my car But you can drive Collect more goods to stay alive Water the plants Sleep through the night I'll rub your back with oils You'll sing me to sleep Try to keep each other spoiled It heart is never cheap We'll take my car But you can drive Avoid the crowds We'll go late at night Looking a bit like zombie brides Department store romance Fitting room hookup We'll look at the rings I'm feeling good luck Coming our way like a new pair of shoes Vibrating heart like a vintage cartoon

The kids aren’t in school The government thinks we’re fools So I’m learning to make my own bread And spend lots of time inside my head Got out the sketchbook Played all my favorite records Practice meditation It’s like a vacation My neighbors joined a book club They’re not givin up No they’re not givin up No we’re not givin up Lookin for a solution We live in a new year’s resolution

about

Recorded in DeKalb, IL
Spring 2023

These songs were written between spring 2020, when the first shutdown happened, and January 2022, as I was preparing for my final semester in graduate school at Northern Illinois University.

The songs can be about whatever you want them to be. For me, they reflect some tension between feeling trapped in the anxiety of a global health crisis, and the freedom that comes with collective action, social change, and self-reflection.
